Sun Moon Lake Karuizawa Villa B&B

We had to cancel our trip, but the hotel had been happy to accommodate all our requests about traveling with an infant and helped us get a refund. Hopefully we'll stay here when we return to Taiwan next year.

We'd booked the wrong dates by mistake and only noticed when we reached the hotel. The front desk employee found us a room for the nights we meant to book and checked us in right then. The staff were attentive and helpful, and the room was spacious and clean. It's in a great location too. Breakfast included scrambled eggs, small sausages, bread with butter and jam, congee, salad with the usual toppings, orange juice, coffee, tea, and soy milk. For the price, we'd definitely stay again.

Breakfast was a buffet with scrambled eggs, sausages, rice, and gruel, and the front desk staff were friendly. They also sold boat tickets at a very good price. I got a twin room for a really good rate. It was clean, but had no tub or bedside outlets. I sometimes had to ask the front desk for hot water, though they said that was temporary. The elevator was quite noisy and shut down after 10 p.m.

At 3900 a night, this felt like a ripoff. The room was large and nice, and the staff were decent enough, but the bathroom curtains were moldy and the place was dirty. Right after I moved in, I found a live "friend" in the bathroom. When I told the clerk, she just said they were renovating and did nothing until I asked her to remove it. The promised Sun Moon Lake water view wasn't there either. For 1500 or 2000 a night, I might rate it 3 or 4 stars. Don't get your hopes up about breakfast, I'd eat somewhere else.
