Z-Lodge Zanzibar

The location is excellent, right on the beach, with two pools and lots of greenery, but I came away with mixed feelings. The rooms were clean but a little worn, and we had no hot water for the last few days because of a problem they couldn’t fix. The restaurant food was tasty, and breakfast was good, but the wait was extremely long even when the hotel was nearly empty. Ordering ahead for a set time didn’t help much: a simple salad could still take 45 minutes, while everyone else finished eating. I can only imagine how long it takes in peak season when the hotel is full. If you’re traveling with children and need an extra bed, be aware the mattress is covered in synthetic leather with only a sheet over it. It gets very hot and isn’t comfortable for a child to sleep on.

Dinner was a highlight of our weekend with friends at Z Lodge Zanzibar. The à la carte meal was thoughtfully prepared, nicely presented and delicious, and breakfast the next morning was fresh and just as enjoyable. The calm atmosphere and lovely plants around the property made it a relaxing stay. Our tastefully done rooms were very nice and clean, and the bathroom was spotless and well maintained. We arrived very late, but the airport transfer was quick, smooth and felt safe. Since then, the staff have been so kind, welcoming and accommodating. The views are beautiful, and we’ve been enjoying excellent food as well. Z-Lodge has been amazing so far, and we’d definitely recommend it to anyone visiting Zanzibar. They also arrange excursions directly through the lodge, which makes planning activities really easy.

My daughter and I felt at home from the very first day, thanks to the welcoming staff. The deluxe room was comfortable, beautifully decorated and very clean, with a stunning view of the sea and pool. Every meal was delicious, the chef has magic hands. We also took a reef tour that we won’t forget, and our captain was friendly and very helpful. Highly recommended!
