We had a great week and would happily return. We liked being free to make our own plans instead of being at an all inclusive resort. The staff arranged a beach bonfire, we made our own BBQ, and most nights we walked from the house to different restaurants and bars. They were attentive and helpful throughout. A heads up for anyone unfamiliar with Zanzibar or Africa: the drive to the house goes through a very informal settlement, which might worry some visitors. I had been to Zanzibar before, so I knew what to expect. The surroundings behind the house look nothing like the photos, and since the beach is public, people often come up to the gate asking for money. I found that a little depressing.

We spent much of our time on the big terrace with its garden furniture, enjoying the wonderful ocean view. The house sits right on the beach and has three spacious bedrooms, comfortable beds, two bathrooms, and a kitchen. Manager Suleiman communicated very well, met us with the keys, and stayed available during our visit. The house was cleaned and guarded daily. We were glad we hired the chef. He made breakfast and delicious dinners, including seafood. The beach was beautiful and clean, though the tides were high, and we could still swim in the warm ocean every day. The area is quiet, with everyday life behind the house much like elsewhere on the island. People were very friendly. There’s a grocery store and plenty of restaurants nearby.
