The quiet surroundings and comfortable, spacious room made it easy to unwind, and the hotel was clean and beautifully cared for. Everyone was welcoming and quick to help. I stayed at AHG Hotel in Zanzibar in December 2021, and they even put on a lovely New Year's Eve event. It was a relaxing, hassle-free getaway, and I'd happily recommend it to anyone visiting Zanzibar.

There were lovely spots around the property for photos, and we found plenty to do during the day, from cooking classes and aqua aerobics to palm-leaf weaving and cocktail making. Lunch and dinner were four-course à la carte meals, with lots of fresh fish, and the rooms were cleaned twice daily. The east coast setting has beautiful ocean views, and the hotel has a quaint, authentic feel. The staff were kind and friendly, especially Samuel in the restaurant and the two Omars from Kappa Club, who made our stay even better. Beaches in Zanzibar are open to everyone, and some locals may try to overcharge, so it's good to keep that in mind. We'd gladly recommend AHG hotel for a relaxing, authentic Zanzibar getaway.
For peace, quiet, and really good food, this place is a great choice. The food was in a different league for me, better than five-star hotels I've tried in Greece or Turkey. Daniel, the godfather of this place, is friendly and very helpful, and really wants guests to enjoy their holiday. The Masai guard the property, so nobody gets through without a reason or need. The rooms are good. There are lots of boats on the beach, but that didn't matter much since the sea itself is like a minesweeper game with urchins. Still, the water is warm and clear. Gerturde is the best waitress, so happy and welcoming, 10 out of 10.
We waited far too long for everything, even though the place was almost empty, and when we left quite a lot of food, with big portions, the staff didn't ask why or show any concern. The calamari was inedible and smelled strongly of old fish, nothing like fresh calamari. The fries were the only decent part. After eating the salad, I got so sick that I spent the rest of the day feeling awful and had to cancel the next day's trip because I couldn't go out. This was one of the worst dining experiences we've had, and it ended with food poisoning. I'd only suggest this place if you want to get sick. Avoid it.
The food was the best part for us, with fresh dishes prepared carefully and choices to suit different tastes. Our room was cozy and spotless, and the staff were friendly and helpful throughout. We had a fantastic stay and a relaxing, memorable holiday.
