Selous River Camp

We stayed in a bush canvas tent with an ensuite bathroom. It was reasonably basic but had everything we needed, and the bathroom was very nice. I’d suggest at least two nights to enjoy the place, or three if you want extra time to relax around the pool. The sunset is spectacular. Our full-day game drive was incredible. We saw lions, giraffes, zebras, warthogs, hippos, hyenas, elephants, impalas, and lots more. The boat cruise got us close to a crocodile, and we saw hundreds of hippos along with all kinds of birds, monkeys, baboons, and lizards. We arranged our own driver and transport from Kilwa Masoko, which took about five hours. The roads were rough, and for over two hours we had to go as slowly as 30 km/hour. The long, uncomfortable drive aside, the Selous River Camp team welcomed us so warmly. We arrived late, but they had dinner and our induction ready. Abdullah went above and beyond to make sure we had a great experience. Thanks to the Slow Leopard team and all the camp staff for an unforgettable stay.

Our safari tent was comfortable for the two nights we stayed, and housekeeping kept it neat and clean. The service was so caring, with the team doing their best to meet our requests. Food was delicious, and the river view from the dining and reception areas and pool was priceless. There are some lovely activities to book in advance. The morning bush walk was especially unique. Plan your trip to and from camp carefully. Driving can take longer than you might expect, though flying in is another option.

We went on three full-day game drives and one boat safari. Joseph, our guide, was amazing and went above and beyond each day, including making sure we got to see lions in the park. Frank and Sultan deserve a special shout-out for helping make the trip unforgettable. Slow Leopard sorted our flights and transfers, and everything went smoothly. We spent four nights here, enjoyed delicious meals, and had a clean room where we felt safe. The service was outstanding, and every staff member was so welcoming and friendly. If you’re planning a safari in Tanzania, I’d highly recommend staying here. You won’t regret it.

The facilities weren’t nice, and the power kept cutting out. Wifi didn’t reach the room, and the fence by the river didn’t feel safe for kids. My son developed a fever, so we had to leave urgently. The hotel didn’t try to help and charged us for extra days even though we had to evacuate because of the health issue. I truly do not recommend it.
