My stay at Canary Hotel was one of the worst I've had. I booked a room at the main hotel, but on arrival was sent to an annex building. The room itself was acceptable enough, but the bathroom was extremely dirty, the door wouldn't close properly and the toilet was broken. When we asked to move rooms, the manager dismissed our complaints and insisted on repairing the problems instead. At checkout, one of the small towels had been deliberately hidden, and we were made to pay $10 before we could leave. It felt like blatant extortion and a scam. The whole experience felt dishonest from the start. I think the good rating is misleading and may be boosted by fake reviews or bots. Read the 1-star reviews first, as they match what really happened to us. I don't recommend this hotel under any circumstances. Dirty facilities and unprofessional management. Save your money and nerves and stay somewhere else.

We were mostly happy with our three-night family stay. We chose this hotel at the last minute for Nungwi and found it good value, especially with other hotels charging about twice as much per night. It felt safe, with wristbands required for guests and a security guard always out front. The rooms and grounds were consistently clean, thanks to the staff. It has more of a boutique than a resort feel, which made sense for the price and location. There is only one restaurant, but we enjoyed the food, especially the fresh squeezed orange juice. Our family must have ordered around 30 glasses over the three nights. The hotel is a good fit if you want a smaller place in a good location, with friendly staff, clean grounds and a fair price. If you want more amenities, choices and a bigger resort atmosphere, look elsewhere. Our only gripe was the shortage of pool and beach towels when we needed them. Grab yours earlier in the day and keep them until you're done.
