Hostel 197

The best mascot is Asha, their dog, and the real star of the place. We'll miss her most of all! The kitchen staff were consistently great. We never had a dish to complain about, and their chicken in coconut sauce was our favorite. The bar guys were also a hit when we wanted a friendly chat. Management were approachable and warm, happy to sit and talk or suggest activities nearby. This is a brilliant mix of hostel and hotel: young people can get an inexpensive bed for a few days, while couples can have some privacy without losing the community feel. We felt at home as soon as we arrived, thanks to Cecilia greeting us with a huge smile and so much enthusiasm. Hope the team keeps up the good work!

The pool and bar area had such a laid-back feel, and our room was spacious. We also loved the food. Everyone was friendly and helpful from the moment we arrived until we left, and the little extras like pool towels, drinking water, cashews, and guest specials made the stay feel like great value. We had a fantastic time at Hostel 197.

The food was delicious, and the whole place had a cozy, relaxed feel. Staff and guests were all so friendly. After leaving Nungwi and spending two days elsewhere, I found myself wanting to run back to Hostel 197. That says a lot about how much I enjoyed being there. It felt like a home away from home, with a family atmosphere, positive energy, and genuine care from the whole team. Their attention to all the little details made my trip easier and more comfortable than I expected. Please pass on my thanks to everyone, especially Francesca, Johnny, Cecilia, Maua, Lucy, Depora, and Asha 🐾. I hope I haven't forgotten anyone. If I return to Zanzibar, Hostel 197 will be a big reason why. I can't think of anything that would improve an experience that already felt perfect. The team really made my stay special. John and everyone else were kind, attentive, and genuinely helpful, whether they were sharing local tips, helping with arrangements, or just making the place feel welcoming. Hostel 197 Zanzibar is clean, comfortable, and well looked after. It has a sociable feel that makes meeting people easy, while still leaving room to relax. I could tell the staff care about their guests and the overall experience. From the moment I arrived, I felt at ease. I'd happily come back and recommend it to anyone visiting Zanzibar who wants somewhere fun and well cared for.
