The Overhang

The food has impressed me every time, from beef ribs and pizza to sushi and fish, and the bar stands out for its location and range of drinks. I’ve stayed at a few hotels south of the city, but The Overhang is in a class of its own. The accommodation, service, and attention to detail all make it feel like home even though you’re in a hotel. It’s a well-run place, and management clearly leads it well. The difference compared with other hotels along the beach is stark. I’d recommend it to anyone considering a visit. Just go.

The food and drinks were delicious, and the sunrises and sunsets were out of this world. Sleeping right by the ocean, with the waves going all night, felt surreal. It’s such a beautiful place to disconnect from the chaos and feel like time has stopped. The staff were the best and made our stay so enjoyable. They made my birthday really special and memorable. A special shoutout to Adam, a top employee! I highly recommend it. Everyone should see this beauty, it’s hard to put it all into words.

The restaurant is perched on a hill overlooking the deserted beach, and the food was great. The staff were there to help with anything. Beautiful houses are tucked into the jungle, with a private white-sand beach and crystal-clear water. Amazing place, hard to describe unless you experience it yourself. I want to add one problem without taking back any of the above. When we checked out, we were overcharged a little over 70 USD while the restaurant bills were being settled by credit card. We noticed soon after getting home and told Overhang. They admitted the mistake right away and said they’d work out a refund. Two weeks and several messages later, they still hadn’t figured it out. We said a refund to our card, through Mpesa, or in cash would all be fine, but nothing came through. They kept giving odd excuses, like the accounting team in Dar had to handle it and it was complicated. After an otherwise lovely stay, this hassle left a bitter taste.

We had a short, restful retreat in a beautiful setting, with amazing food, especially the seafood platter. I’d definitely return for another break.
