The location is honestly special. At night you can hear buffalo or elephants grazing, and the lions roaring and hyenas calling brought back memories of growing up as a kid around the Serengeti district. Back then, kids like me could visit these properties for lunch or dinner through arrangements by Tanapa, meant to build good relations with the villages around Serengeti National Park. Doing well in exams earned us that chance. It pushed me to study hard and aim for a career in hospitality, and now I’m here, living that dream. 👍 The staff are friendly, the food is good, and the chef does a good job. The rooms are OK, but they’ve been around long enough that they need refurbishing. The jacuzzi wasn’t working.

The rooms are on the small side, but they’re made entirely of wood. From the lodge, which seems to be carved into the top of a hill, the rooms have fabulous views. The food is good and there’s plenty to choose from, and the staff are very polite. The bar is beautifully decorated.

There are lots of hyraxes, klipspringer antelopes, and baboons wandering around the grounds. The rooms and amenities are a little run down, but I still think it’s worth spending a night or two here. The view over Serengeti is amazing, and the location is superb. It’s also a historic place, built by Nyerere between 1968 and 1971 inside the park, where construction is generally forbidden. Recommended.

Stone, wood, and glass come together in some really impressive architecture that makes the place feel unique. The rooms are very comfortable, the outdoor pool has a viewpoint terrace, and there’s a restaurant. The meals were delicious, and the staff were friendly and helpful. If you’re in Northern Serengeti, this is a must stay. It sits on a rocky mountain, with an amazing location and great views.

The staff were incredibly friendly and accommodating, and they made our stay feel special. The food was very good compared with our previous lodge around Karatu. Whether it was buffet or made to order, we always enjoyed it and left satisfied. The location is a real gem, especially if you’re hoping to see a Mara River crossing during the Great Migration. The architecture is so cool, built on a huge rock and bringing the bare stone right into the common areas. It has that 1960s safari fantasy feel. Rock Hyrax are running around everywhere, adorable to watch, and they don’t bother you. After safari, we made a daily stop at the pool deck to enjoy a cocktail and look out over the vast savannah. There are also lovely spots for sunset and stargazing in the evenings. The rooms are just okay, pretty bland, and the beds are super firm. A lot of little things could use fixing and some TLC to take the place up a level, like the loose shower head holder and the many pool deck lights that are out. Electricity comes from a diesel generator, so the power and hot water don’t come on until 6pm. That was sometimes frustrating, though not a huge issue.
