I can’t comment on the hotel, but lunch here was great. We were seven people and ordered a lot, and they kindly split the checks for us. The service was wonderful, the food delicious, and the cocktails tasty. They also had a good range of mocktails.

The rooftop is the real draw: gorgeous views, especially at sunset, a refreshing pool, and a very peaceful atmosphere. Breakfast was delicious, and the restaurant and bar staff were attentive and friendly. The care put into the design and details throughout Upendo House is lovely. Our room was on the small side compared with other hotels, but beautifully decorated, with a very comfortable bed and an excellent shower. There wasn’t a view from the room, though I didn’t mind at all.

We’ll always remember our honeymoon stay at Upendo House. The location in the middle of Stone Town made it easy to wander through the narrow streets, markets, and waterfront, while the hotel felt like a quiet oasis when we came back. The floating breakfast in the pool was a highlight of a lifetime for me. The food was beautifully presented and delicious, and having it while floating with those views over Stone Town felt surreal. From arrival onward, every staff member we met was welcoming, kind, and attentive. This boutique hotel had the special atmosphere and thoughtful experiences we hoped for, and the stay exceeded every expectation.

The only thing that bothered me was how clearly the 5 a.m. call to prayer from the nearby mosque could be heard in the room. Otherwise, this was a very pleasant stay in a small, spotless hotel with friendly, attentive staff. It’s right in the heart of Stone Town, beside Forodhani Gardens Night Market, and it’s easy to explore on foot. My room had a bathtub and was comfortable with nice decor, though it wasn’t large. Breakfast is à la carte at the well-known The 5th Restaurant, and I thought it was very good. I also enjoyed lunch there. The rooftop is a treat, with a pool, sea views, a bar, and a great place to watch the sunset. I caught it on my last day. Parking is about a three-minute walk away, so you have a short bit to carry your luggage, but the staff and driver are ready to help. There’s also a small boutique selling attractive, high-quality things.

The day trips we arranged through the hotel went exactly as requested. We also loved the breakfasts, and the rooftop bar is a great place to watch the sunset over Stone Town. Staff and management were lovely and friendly. We had an excellent stay and highly recommend it.
