Hotel Verde Zanzibar - Azam Luxury Resort and Spa - Dry Hotel

The staff are what made my stay feel special. Everyone was friendly, professional, and ready to help with a smile. Suleiman deserves a special mention for being so polite, attentive, and genuinely caring. He made me feel welcome as soon as I arrived and went out of his way to make sure everything was right. His positive attitude really made a difference. Hotel Verde itself was clean, comfortable, and well maintained, with modern facilities, spacious rooms, and a calm atmosphere. I'd happily stay again and recommend it to anyone visiting Zanzibar.

Really enjoyed staying here. The pool area is great, and the staff are friendly and professional. Nasri, the restaurant waiter, was especially nice and polite. His smile lights up the room! 🌟

We spent four days here and had a great time. I wish we'd had a couple more days to lounge by the pool. It's a lovely modern place for a quiet, relaxing break, and it feels newer and more up to date than other hotels around Zanzibar. Most rooms face the ocean, with sunset views from the balcony, where there's a little swing hammock to relax in. Our room was spacious and modern, with a really nice bathroom. I'd been unsure because the website photos looked a bit dated, but the room was a pleasant surprise. You can walk through the gardens, book a boat at the marina for a beautiful sunset cruise, kayak, or hang out by the pool. There's also a children's waterpark open on weekends, babysitting, a gym, and a spa. A beach is next door, and car services are available for town or tourist spots. The reception staff were warm and welcoming, and the ocean and garden views are beautiful. There's a cute coffee bar with smoothies, fresh sandwiches, and pastries to have while taking in the view. The hotel is dry, so there's no alcohol, but plenty of juices, smoothies, and other drinks. The hibiscus juice was my favorite. The restaurant has a nice mix of cuisines. Food can take a while, but much of it is made fresh, which makes sense. Most dishes were quite good, served in big portions and presented nicely. Definitely try the Zanzibar Boneless Chicken with Pilau, it's so good. They also have fresh coconut water at breakfast, so get one before they run out.

It's a beautiful hotel, but it isn't for everyone. I was very unhappy with my stay on November 10th, 2025. I booked a twin room but was first given a king bed. They did arrange a twin room, though that room smelled like mildew. When I reported it, they just suggested turning on the AC, which wouldn't fix the problem. I also hadn't known there was no beach access, and that wasn't listed on booking.com. The pool closes at 6 or 6:30. When I tried to check out, the concierge asked why I'd listed my complaints, and my grandmother did too. He said he'd go get a supervisor. She explained the refund situation and said the room probably smelled of mildew because of the rain, but the other room didn't have the same smell. She was combative, even though I was the guest who was unhappy. The conversation went back and forth, so I ended it. While the concierge was trying my phone behind the desk for me, I asked for my charge, and she said, "Oh, this old thing." Her attitude was nasty and she shouldn't be in that role. Other staff kept interrupting while she spoke with me, and she saw nothing wrong with it. It left me wondering who is looking after the guests.
