Kisiwa House

The building’s history and character really come through, and the staff are so kind and welcoming. Our room was spacious, very clean, and comfortable. Food was good quality and nicely prepared, without being anything fancy. The live music on Wednesday and Saturday evenings adds a lovely atmosphere. Kisiwa House is right in central Stone Town, easy to reach by taxi, and a great place to explore from if you’re not looking for a beachfront hotel. We had a wonderful stay and would happily recommend this beautiful historic place for its relaxed feel, location, and great staff.

Even though I arrived very early, they welcomed me with a drink, and the manager took time to explain the history of the location. They got my room ready as soon as they could, and arranged dinner after hours for my girlfriend when she arrived late that night. The service was exceptional. Breakfast was very nice, with a good choice from a menu rather than a buffet. My room was comfortable, at a nice temperature, and had a very modern bathroom. A lovely hotel right in the heart of Stone Town, with very friendly staff. A great experience.

Frank, the general manager, shared so many historical details and went out of his way to make our first visit to Zanzibar memorable. The staff made the day and evening for us. Zula, sorry if I’ve got the spelling wrong, was sensational: sociable, very knowledgeable about the food, and a big part of making our night. Everyone was happy and attentive, and the traditional music added to the atmosphere. We only had one night at Kisiwa, which didn’t feel like enough. Our two suites had four-poster beds and were spotlessly clean. The location was great, and we had breakfast and an evening set meal on the roof terrace. The food was Michelin-star quality, yet very reasonably priced, with lots of fresh fish and seafood and everything homemade with wonderful spices. Thank you all. We enjoyed every minute and will be back.
