Mauwani Inn

The location is close to the city, and the staff were polite with good service, but we weren't comfortable during our two nights here. Our room felt like a storage room with two queen beds squeezed into it, and the bathroom was so tiny that moving around or showering was difficult. The floor wasn't pleasant and there was no mat. We also saw mosquitoes in the room. No toiletries were supplied, so bring your own. There is a shared hall with a washroom, kitchen, dining space, coffee, water, and a fridge. I wouldn't recommend it if comfort is what you're after.

Really nice hotel surroundings, very clean rooms, and the staff are so charming.

There are plenty of shared areas to unwind, and the kitchen is well equipped, with unlimited tea and coffee at no charge. Our family room had comfortable beds, fans, and air conditioning. It wasn't ensuite, but the shared bathroom was very close and kept spotless. This hostel is great value and well placed for exploring Stone Town. Traffic was noisy enough that I slept poorly, though the rest of my family were fine.

The team were incredibly friendly. They arranged a tuk-tuk so I could get beer from the other side of town and gave me lovely chilled bottled water. The hostel is well located and good value, with basic rooms and shared toilets and showers. There are lots of fans, but it gets VERY hot, so if heat is hard for you to handle, I'd look for somewhere with air conditioning.
