Spice Tree by Turaco Stone Town

She was welcoming from the second we arrived, and her recommendations from the menu were spot on. During the meal she checked in at good moments without hovering, and knew the dishes really well. Her warmth, professionalism, and eye for detail made the whole visit such a pleasure. Service like that would definitely bring me back.

Our two nights in this lovely Stone Town hotel were a highlight of the Zanzibar trip. My husband and I felt looked after from start to finish, and the staff went out of their way to make the stay better than we expected. A special thank you to Charles and Francis, who were so hospitable and fun to talk with that they felt like friends by the time we left. The little personal touches stood out. I asked the manager about the wonderful scent in the hotel, and she showed me the incense and told me where to buy it. Mohamoud at reception made check-in easy and helped adjust our itinerary. Francis arranged a taxi and helped with our luggage alongside the doorman. Charles served breakfast with such a contagious smile, and the chef took time to answer all my questions about the homemade dishes and pastries. We were sorry to leave.

The restaurant was a real highlight, with great food and a lovely atmosphere. I also really enjoyed the feel of Turaco Spice Tree. Kalista and Francis deserve a special mention for their professionalism, friendliness, and thoughtful service, which made our stay even better. I’d happily return and recommend the hotel to anyone visiting Zanzibar.

I’ve stayed at The Spice Tree twice, and I’ll book it again next time I’m in Zanzibar. It’s right in the middle of Stone Town, handy for exploring everything on foot, and the rooms are good. The staff are excellent and always helpful. Both restaurants serve great food, and the view from the fifth-floor restaurant is wonderful, especially at sunset. Forodhani is just a four-minute walk away, a nice place to grab an evening snack.
