Campus Community A-Hotel

The rooms are clean, but some have awful views and big holes in the walls that let you see into the neighboring rooms. In the mornings the manager is always away, leaving you with an unhelpful staff member who just says to wait for the manager. ¯\_(tsu)_/¯

It's a fun place for a few nights, somewhere between a hostel and a hotel. We stayed in a capsule, which gave us more privacy than dorm beds, with plenty of storage and room for two. The bathrooms were clean and always available. There's also a restaurant, bar, game room, workspace, laundry, and luggage storage. Good price, and right by the main part of the city, easy to get to. Google Maps doesn't locate the building very well, though, so Uber has trouble with pickups and drop-offs. This place is great.

Finding the hostel was a headache on arrival. The address showed up wrong on both Google Maps and Uber, so my ride from the airport took longer and cost more while we tried to locate it. Once there, the location itself was good. The beds were comfortable, and I liked having curtains and keypad lockers; the room door also used a card. Bathrooms were spacious and generally clean, though there was nowhere useful to put clothes while showering, just a small hook. I found it hard to meet anyone because the place had little atmosphere, and staff weren't especially welcoming or helpful when I asked questions. They could organize activities for guests, since the restaurant events seemed aimed at outside customers and were usually for non-English speakers.

In one week, four laptops, an iPad, four passports, and some other belongings went missing, including items from lockers. The cameras outside the room doors supposedly weren't working, and staff seemed annoyed when we asked for help. Their response was that things should have been locked away. Some weren't, that's true, but people also come to hostels expecting a bit of trust and hostel spirit. The digital lockers are unreliable, and staff have a master code. They also let maintenance workers they didn't know into dorms without telling anyone. The rooms don't match the photos, and the air conditioning doesn't work properly. With security like this, it's easy to see why it might have become a place thieves target. If you care about your belongings, a friendly hostel atmosphere, and helpful staff, I'd avoid staying here.
