I haven't stayed in the rooms, but I saw Chloe looking after guests firsthand during my winter overnight stay. She was kind, incredibly helpful, showed people around, and clearly cared about them. I felt very well looked after too. Chloe deserves a raise. The new chef's food was good, and he came out each time to check how the meal was, which was rare to see. I really couldn't complain about the place. I'd come again, though I've heard summer gets quite busy.

We came for a weekend with our three young boys and are already looking forward to coming back. The family room was cosy and had enough space, with a TV, kettle, storage, comfortable beds and plenty of bedding, pillows and blankets. Everyone we met among the staff and owners was welcoming, friendly and down to earth. The Guinness was spot on and the food was stunning.

I'm a chef, so I tend to spot things to criticise when I eat out, but I couldn't find a single fault here. The braised beef was beautifully cooked, full of flavour and some of the best I've had. From the moment we arrived, the pub felt welcoming and truly family friendly. The Gate Hangs High has the food and atmosphere right, and it's somewhere we'd want to return to. Highly recommended.

I'm French, grew up by the sea, and have lived in the UK for over 15 years. The roast cod was hands down the best fish I've had in the UK, fresh and cooked perfectly. The crème anglaise was delicious too. We visited on a grey Sunday in January, and the atmosphere was lovely and family friendly. The front of house team gave great service. Highly recommend.
