Best Western The Lairgate Hotel

We left without staying. The room was freezing when we arrived in November, with the temperature outside at 10 degrees, and there were no radiators on anywhere in the hotel. I rang reception three times, but nothing changed and nobody got back to us. We'd paid extra both for a fancy four-poster room as a birthday treat for my husband and for early check-in. We also had to cancel a restaurant booking, and after travelling all day, we'd wasted our time and let several people down. I'm extremely disgusted with the service. Don't book here, they won't provide what you've paid for.

Angie was an absolute star when we arrived. She showed us to our rooms, explained what to do if the key didn't work, and was so welcoming and smiley. The rooms were clean, warm and inviting.

The front of the hotel is being updated, so don't let it put you off. The entrance is round the back, and residents can use the free parking, with about 12 spaces. Inside, the rooms are spacious and clean, and the staff are lovely. I'll definitely stay again.

The reception guy was lovely during our two-night stay for the races, and couldn't do enough for us, even though the hotel was being refurbished. We had a spacious, clean room with a very comfy bed and a great shower. It was only a two-minute walk to the town centre. There wasn't breakfast included, but that was fine. The room had tea and coffee making facilities, an ironing board and iron, and a hairdryer. We both really enjoyed it and will be back next year.
