Apollo Hotel

The carpet was dirty, there was a dead spider in the bathtub, and I found bed bugs in the beds, despite being told the room had been deep cleaned. I have serious health conditions, a disability, and mental health issues, and I was staying on the first floor with three children. Once we went in, the bugs and dust caused such severe reactions for me and the kids that we practically ran out after 45 minutes. These photos show bed bug bites and dust rashes on us. I would never recommend this place.

The staff were friendly and quick to respond, but the hotel needs serious updating. My room curtains wouldn’t open, so they stayed drawn. The shower and bath water was nearly scalding even at the lowest setting, making them unsafe to use properly. I reported it and was offered another room to shower in, but it shouldn’t have been unsafe to begin with. Breakfast was poor. There was no fresh fruit or other particularly healthy choice, and apart from the sausages, the cooked food was appalling: eggs so overdone they fell apart, odd-tasting bacon, and cold mushrooms and tomatoes. The building has an early-1970s motel feel, but the other problems could easily be fixed.

Avoid this hotel. On 24/01/2026, I had a terrible experience with a female receptionist with dark hair and large eyes. I asked for an extra pillow and blanket for my children. She said the pillow was free and the blanket cost £10. I said, “Fine, just give me the free pillow then,” but she became very aggressive and used offensive language. She wouldn’t give me the pillow either, then rudely went into the back office and left me waiting. Treating a guest with young children like that is disgusting and unacceptable. First and last time staying here. No professionalism or respect for customers.

They took a deposit they said would be refunded, but it never came back. I had to keep chasing my bank instead of the hotel taking responsibility. It was stressful and very unprofessional. I wouldn’t recommend staying here. Trust and transparency matter when choosing somewhere to stay.
