Malmaison Birmingham Hotel

The bar and restaurant team were fantastic, and the food was amazing. Both service and quality were spot on. We'd happily stay here again and return in future. We stayed on Saturday 17th January. Reception staff were warm and friendly from the moment we arrived. Our room, number 614 on the 6th floor, was spotless and beautifully presented, with a great city view. It was my wife's birthday, and she was completely surprised by the stay and especially impressed by how tidy and clean the room was. My wife drinks a lot of coffee, and we quickly used what was in the room. The housekeeper on the 6th floor couldn't have been more helpful: she went out of her way to bring us extra coffee and tea. She's a real credit to the housekeeping team and the high standards they maintain. A brilliant hotel and excellent experience all round.

The staff made us feel so welcome, and the rooms were great. I stayed with my family the night before the wedding, then my husband and I came back to stay with friends and family after we got married. We had a fabulous breakfast as newlyweds. A great stay, thank you all!

We paid nearly £200 for one night, and this Malmaison didn’t feel like the luxury stay I remember from other Malmaisons over the years. The staff we met were nice, though reception asking me to explain what was wrong with the bedding when I called was unnecessary and unlike what I’d experienced in the past. Our room felt dated and in need of care. The curtains looked tired, the towels were rough and smelled off, and the room and linen both had a stale smell. I had to call down on arrival to get one bed’s unclean bedding changed. The shower was so small it was hard to move around. One wall socket was loose, and the bedside USB ports barely held a charge. There were USBs by the bed but no plug sockets. The Q Car Park discount next door was useful, but prepay didn’t work: the barrier didn’t lift at either entry or exit. The traffic trying to leave was absolute chaos. That’s not the hotel’s fault, just a heads-up for anyone booking. For reference, we had the double double room because we needed two double beds. It’s the only room type that offers that, and I’ve stayed in those and the other room styles before.

We booked the hotel package with dinner and breakfast, and both the food and service were excellent. The bar and restaurant staff were faultless, and the hotel’s location in the Mailbox is a great place to stay in Birmingham. The room was clean and tidy, though a little warm in some spots. The door frames and bathroom need maintenance. I’d have given five stars if those small details had been taken care of, but we still really enjoyed the visit.
