What stood out most was how welcoming the owners were. I booked late at night, but they stayed up to greet me, offered me a round of ale even though the pub had closed, and let me take it to my room. We had a friendly chat about the area, and breakfast was simple but honest. I was travelling through the UK on my motorcycle after finishing the NC500, and the ride into this small, quiet town via England's highest paved road was spectacular. The "Old Coach House at The Golden Lion" can also provide a barn to store motorcycles and bicycles securely overnight. Just ask, and the owners are happy to help. The pub has a cosy feel, a good range of food, and excellent ale and beer. Their genuine care made this a lovely stay. I'd recommend it to bikers for the setting, secure bike storage, and warm hospitality.

Good value drinks, dog biscuits on the bar, and lovely locals. The landlord was really friendly and happy to help with anything. Great pub, thanks, I'll come again ☺️

Such a welcoming pub, with lovely, warm people. There's a great choice of drinks, snacks, and food. Would definitely recommend.

The food was cooked perfectly and tasted great: lasagne, a steak burger, and carbonara bake. We came in after the kitchen had closed, but when I asked if food was still being served, they kindly kept it open for the three of us. There were only two people working on a very busy day, yet they still made time and space for us to have drinks and a meal. Everyone was so warm and welcoming, and spoke to me like we'd known each other for years. It's a lovely little local pub. The food was made with care, and the service was fantastic. I'd highly recommend it and will absolutely be back. Thank you 😊

We popped in one evening while staying nearby and enjoyed the meal enough to return later that week. The welcome was friendly, and the food came out piping hot, freshly cooked to order, tasty, and reasonably priced. They remembered us on the second visit, and we had a lovely chat about our week.
