Beckwood Hotel

The room was freezing, the window wouldn’t shut, and there was damp and mold all over the walls, plus a hole in the roof. It wasn’t clean either. We lasted 15 minutes, grabbed our stuff and booked somewhere else, after spending £35 on this room. It’s now on for £16 a night, and I still wouldn’t bother. Don’t be fooled by the photos.

The hotel put a mother out and left her homeless after police came to take her daughter back to a placement. The daughter had run away from the placement and wanted her mother. She has a learning disability, and her mother let her stay because she didn’t want her on the street. It wasn’t the mother’s fault that the police turned up, but the hotel was unhappy they came and made her leave. She’d paid £280 through the 9th Feb, but had only been there four days and wasn’t given a refund. Absolutely diabolical.

The room itself was okay, but I had to go downstairs and ask the owner for toilet paper because there wasn’t any. She asked if the room was clean; I said there was a little tobacco on the carpet, so she went up and vacuumed it. The other issue wasn’t really the hotel’s fault: other guests kept knocking on my door, and one of them even pushed a letter underneath it.

It’s very close to Pleasure Park, and the bedding was clean. The rooms are rubbish, though, and I wouldn’t use the towels they provided. I guess you get what you pay for, so don’t expect perfection if you’re paying cheap. As people tell me, it is what it is.
