The Nici

The staff made a real effort to make my mum's birthday special, from separating our beds to getting our bags to the room after we left them at reception. There was a decorated plate for her and a card waiting in the bedroom, and the waiters checked in throughout breakfast. We felt looked after from the start. We haven't even left yet, but we're already thinking about coming back for my birthday and breakfast another time. We were upgraded to a beautiful sea view room. The bathroom was great, I loved the shower, and having conditioner was a nice touch. The bed was super comfy, with very soft pillows and duvets. Breakfast was continental, but there was plenty to choose from, including amazing yogurts and a good range of juices. After breakfast we had massages. I really enjoyed the fruit and water available around the facilities, and Ana, my massage therapist, was so friendly and thoughtful about the little details. The hot oil was a favourite too. The indoor fire pits were lovely, and walking to the spa in our dressing gowns made it feel like a proper girls' weekend. Thanks to the Nici team for making the birthday memorable.

The spa is gorgeous, though it felt busy during half term and is quite small, with only a few beds, so it was harder to properly unwind. We were glad our room was peaceful and away from the bustle downstairs. The Nici is a stunning new hotel, with Miami-inspired style throughout that felt uplifting without being overdone. The bed was very comfortable, and the complimentary banana rum shot was a thoughtful way to start the break. We enjoyed the atmosphere at South Beach restaurant and had a lovely Valentine's afternoon tea. The sweets looked beautifully presented, but the flavours were a little bland by comparison. What stood out most was the staff: everyone we met was friendly, welcoming and attentive. We'd definitely come back.

The massage was easily the best part of our spa day. Ana was incredible, and it was the best massage I've had. My partner's was very good too. The relaxation room was lovely to wait in, with hot herbal tea on the side. We also had lunch included at the restaurant. It was a light meal, which worked well before going back into the spa. We booked four months ahead for my birthday with three others, but didn't get many emails beforehand. The only warning about needing flip-flops came by phone the day before, when we were already staying at a different hotel. The spa isn't very big and has little seating: one long bench, one small bench and about six double loungers. People often left towels and belongings on loungers without using them, which was frustrating. Our group was there from 11:00 to 13:30 and again from 14:30 to 16:00, but we never got a lounger. Some people kept their things there while they went for lunch, so staff really need to monitor this. We visited in late February, when it was raining heavily. The outdoor area was open, but it was freezing outside, so we couldn't use it. If it had been warmer, going outdoors might also have eased the problem with people claiming loungers. I'd come again and hope to make use of the outdoor space in warmer weather.

Scout took great care of us at the attached South Beach Bar. She was attentive, knew her stuff and was really sweet, and the themed drinks were delicious. Thanks to her and all the staff at The Nici for a memorable night. We only had one night there with my family and travel group, and wished we'd had longer. The tropical and beach styling feels like a real holiday without being kitschy. Our room was fantastic and comfortable. We'd recommend the Garden Suite, though we didn't have time to enjoy the hot tub.
