Located on the seafront overlooking the Brighton Pier, Drakes is a 20 bedroom boutique hotel set in a pair of Regency townhouses in the heart of Brighton. The fully air-conditioned bedrooms have ‘Vi Spring’ beds adorned with Egyptian cotton sheets and goose and duck-down bedding, many of the rooms feature free standing baths looking out over the seafront. Positioned on Marine Parade, five minutes from the Royal Pavilion, Brighton Pier, Sea Lanes swimming, Soho House, the War Memorial and close to Kemptown Races, Drakes is the ideal place to explore the city, to enjoy the sea and beaches, to experience its famous social scene and to watch the glorious sunsets from our Cocktail Bar (or your bedroom) with a tipple or two. Due to the historic layout, the building does not have elevator access to the upper floors, if you require a lower or more accessible floor, please make this request upon booking so we can ensure your stay is as enjoyable as possible.

The view from our room was spectacular, and the road noise wasn’t too bad on the third floor. We had a bath beside the windows. It wasn’t the most practical setup, but how often do you get to take a bath in a hotel room overlooking Brighton beach? We went for it. The bathroom itself was quite small, at least in room 15. Breakfast was included in our price, ordered from the menu, and both generous and very good. Staff service was excellent. We arrived early after walking from the train station. At first the hotel seemed a little far from the centre, but we soon found it was an easy walk. While we were out, our bags were taken up to the room. I’d highly recommend this hotel.

The breakfast was good, with the singing chef in the background making it even better, that was a highlight. The waitress was wonderful too. We had a short stay at drakes, in a pretty room with the sea view we’d booked. The location is great, just steps from the beach. If you can choose, I’d ask for a room above ground level. On the ground floor you’re right by the road, so people can see in, and you hear some noise from the recycling bins and people going through the front door. The second photo shows what I mean if you zoom in.

The reception man was very pleasant and helpful when I arrived yesterday to use the parking space I’d booked. I’ll definitely use that service again. I haven’t stayed overnight yet, but it’s a lovely-looking hotel in a really convenient spot for a few days in Brighton.

The bed was comfortable and the location, right by the pier, is good. But the room was smaller than I liked, and the toilet was in the shower. The sides were sticky, and frosting or blocking on the windows meant there was nothing to look out at. This was my third hotel of the week, and it didn’t meet my expectations. I wouldn’t stay here again.

Brighton is easy to get around on foot, and the views from the hotel are exceptional. We had a relaxing, lovely stay in December. The nearby amenities are great, and the staff were so friendly and attentive. Highly recommended 😍
