The reception staff were so kind when I arrived around 9 PM, drenched from the rain and completely frazzled. I wish I'd written down the receptionist's name. They kept checking I was alright and could see how exhausted I was. I ended up here after a nightmare at another hotel, where the room smelled of rotten cheese and was uninhabitable. I'd then scrambled to book somewhere online and caught the wrong bus on the way here. My room was much bigger than I expected for the price, and I think I may have been upgraded despite booking at the last minute. It was spotless, quiet, and had no bad smells. After that day, I finally got a proper night's sleep. The bathroom was a little chilly, but that's a minor issue compared with how comfortable the stay was. It's right in the city centre, which made getting around easy. For the price, the value is exceptional. I've paid far more at places that weren't warm or quiet. If I'm back in Bristol, I'd stay here again. A clean, warm, peaceful room matters most to me, and they delivered. Reception hospitality was especially good.

The beds were extremely uncomfortable, with old mattresses, and the carpets were dirty. The room was dark, and its lights kept flickering. Windows were broken and wouldn't close, with no locks, while the room door had a flimsy lock. The walls are thin, so it was really noisy. They also charged £19 for parking, which wasn't stated anywhere. There was no customer service at all. Nobody greeted us, gave us the wifi details, or asked if everything was alright. I hate writing bad reviews, but this place isn't four star, two or three at most. It's very dated. Sadly, I won't stay again. I'd suggest Harbour Hotel or Future Inn, which has free parking.

The worst part was a man letting himself into my room in the middle of the night. As a woman travelling alone, I found that scary and concerning. Reception then came upstairs and knocked to confirm our booking and ask for my email address. It seems the evening receptionist gave a complete stranger a key because they had no record of our booking, despite checking me in just a few hours earlier. When I complained in the morning, the first response was a feeble excuse and another request for my email, not an apology. They showed little regard for guests' safety or for fixing the problem. Don't book here. It was a company trip. The hotel is nothing grand: shabby rooms, curtains falling down, a dirty bathroom, and very basic facilities. The cooked breakfast was cold and the coffee disgusting.

All the staff were lovely, with no issues there. But the room was freezing. The air conditioning only blew hot air, and the heated towel rail didn't warm up, so we couldn't use it for heat. The only clothes rail was above the kettle station, which was an odd choice. There was also a bathroom window with a view into several other rooms and buildings, and no blind, so using the toilet felt awkward.

The staff were great, and everything was just a short walk away. I was here for work and felt a bit wary after reading the reviews, but was pleasantly surprised. My room was immaculate and really comfortable, with a lovely bed and a great shower. The only downside was that parking was a bit pricey.
