The room faced the main road and was so noisy it felt like the window was open. The place itself was clean and nice, and the staff were very polite and helpful. It’s about a 25 minute walk to the shops and other places.

Bat and Ball is a lovely place, though it isn’t in central Canterbury. The city centre is about a 25 minute walk away, or a quick bus or taxi ride. Everyone on staff was friendly and helpful. I especially appreciated the young lady working on March 30, who greeted guests warmly at breakfast and had such a thoughtful, service minded manner. My room was impressively clean and tidy, with neatly folded towels, arranged cushions and everything in order. Her attention to detail made the stay feel special. I’d happily recommend the place.

We had a tasty breakfast with healthy options, though we couldn’t find anyone to refill the coffee machine with hot water. Other guests seemed to be looking for whoever was in charge of breakfast too, but nobody turned up. Our room was on the quiet side of the road, and we woke to birds singing. The centre is about a 25 minute walk away, and having Sainsbury extra across the road, open until 11, was very convenient.

This is a proper hostel, and people should be aware of that. Staff are only there until 3pm, so after that guests are left stuck. There are no ground floor rooms, only rooms on the first and second floors reached by stairs. Good luck getting up there on crutches or in a wheelchair, it’s not disabled friendly at all. The service was very bad. Breakfast was charged like at a hotel that serves hot food, but all that was available was a basic student breakfast of cereal and juice. Be careful.
