I hated my stay. The staff were disrespectful, and I couldn’t sleep because they were chatting on the phone late at night. There was lots of mould in my room, and I found a bug in the kettle. Absolutely horrible.

The door slamming and noise from other guests went on all night, and there didn’t seem to be any quiet policy. The bigger problem came after we’d paid in full upfront for two nights. After the first night, a staff member came to our room insisting we owed money for the second. I showed him the bank confirmation, but he kept saying the system had an issue. He called a “boss,” who confirmed in a two-minute call whether we’d paid for one night or two. Maybe it really was a system problem and I misunderstood, but I still want to warn others. Luckily I paid by card. I can only imagine how complicated this might have been with cash. Don’t expect too much from a 2-star hotel.

We lasted 20 minutes and then booked somewhere else. The rooms were filthy, with dirt splattered across the walls, dust everywhere, and what looked like mould behind the bed in one room. I took plenty of photos, though I can’t upload them here. I brought my mum and 14-year-old daughter, and had planned to bring my 8-year-old too. I would never have let my children stay in a place like this. The listing says each room has an en suite bathroom, which is completely untrue. It’s just a bedroom with a bed and wardrobe, and they showed us shared bathrooms and showers. £100 for two rooms without even a toilet is a rip-off. The entrance door was accessible to anyone, and the man working there was playing loud music to himself. There was also a Ring doorbell at reception for what I assume is virtual check-in when staff aren’t onsite, which feels very unsafe. This place is disgusting, and I’m not even sure you can call it a hotel.

The door to the street was propped open, so anyone could walk in, and my partner wasn’t comfortable with me staying at Snooze Hostel, sorry, “hotel.” I’d booked an en suite room for a week of work but was given a room with a shared bathroom. It was very basic. At “reception” I had to call out several times to wake the man sleeping behind the desk. He said he was very tired, then told me an en suite room would cost another £110, which was £40 less than The Saxon Crown. Overpriced hostel, absolute pit. I’d give it zero stars if I could. Avoid.

The only parking is in a dodgy public car park down the road. Inside, the carpets were stained with who knows what, the walls were paper thin, and I could hear everything from the other rooms. The bathroom had black mould and hadn’t been cleaned. After a shower, I felt dirtier than I had before, even after a full day on a building site. Absolute dump, not fit for a rat. Do not stay here. You couldn’t pay me to stop here.
