The Old House Inn

I had time to kill after an appointment was cancelled, so I came here on a whim. The food was excellent. I started with crisp, fresh squid and a Vietnamese dipping sauce with just the right balance of heat and umami. The burger afterwards was epic, with loads of flavour. The service was efficient, polite and friendly. I felt looked after the whole time. They offered drinks at the right moments and never rushed me.

I didn’t catch the name of the lovely man who came to help us, but I’m so grateful to him. My sister and I had a flat tyre this evening and managed to pull into the car park before getting stuck on the road. We went in to ask if anyone could help, and he came straight over without any fuss. He was so friendly and chatty, and even gave us a great demonstration of how to change a tyre. That one interaction tells me everything I need to know about The Old House Inn. The staff are amazing and deserve proper recognition. Thank you as well to the two other guys who let him come off shift to help us. We really appreciate it. They wouldn’t accept anything we offered as thanks, so we’ll come in for a drink soon to support the business. Thank you again for your kindness and selflessness!

We stopped for a meal after our flight back from Tenerife to Gatwick. The staff made us feel very welcome and took care to make sure everything we needed was sorted. The meal and wine were superb, and we really appreciated the chef coming over for a chat. It’s a delightful inn full of character and charm, and a great choice of venue.

We had a good time here. The room was large, warm and beautifully furnished, with top quality bedlinen and towels. The bed was comfortable and the shower hot. It’s in a beautiful, safe neighbourhood, and there was easy parking for three. We arrived very late, but Mr Lewes had arranged for us to collect the key after hours. Thank you!
