Waterloo Cross by Marstons Inns

There was plenty of space in the car park, and the pub had a great atmosphere with good value for money. Sue greeted us warmly at check-in, showed us to the room, and explained breakfast and dining, fire safety, and the out-of-hours number in case we needed it. The room was surprisingly large, and the bed was very comfortable.

Emma made us feel welcome after a long, stressful journey, and even got my two-year-old granddaughter laughing. She was really helpful and thorough about our food allergies, and reassured me that the kitchen took extra care with the gluten-free meal. We had a gluten-free cowboy burger, a chicken kebab, and kids’ sausage and mash. Everything was hot and delicious. We’d come to Waterloo Cross to eat, and Emma turned a stressful end to the day into a happy evening. 😌

The room was tidy, but there was black mould around the shower base. It could easily be cleaned with bleach, and it left us wondering what had actually been cleaned properly. The lady handling the hotel side was very nice and helpful while we were in a rush. The bar staff weren’t helpful when we asked where to check in. One guy seemed more concerned with putting up crisps than helping us.

There’s a bus stop right outside, with buses to and from the rail station, Tiverton, and the surrounding areas. The room was spacious and clean, and all the staff were really helpful and nice. The food was great, though it can get busy in the evening when tables are reserved. Mention that you’re staying in one of their rooms and they’ll find you a table. We stayed for two nights.
