We stayed here before visiting Dumfries House, which is 6 miles away. The staff were very friendly and the food excellent. There was some rowdiness from locals outside, but it quietened down after 11.30pm, so we were able to get a good night's sleep and enjoy a nice Scottish breakfast.

The restaurant was fabulous, with excellent food, a good selection and generous portions. The staff there, especially Alison, were friendly and chatty. We were in town for a nearby wedding and spent the night at the hotel. Our room was clean, tidy and well stocked. It may be a bit dated, but everything in the room and bathroom worked and was in good condition. Being in the town centre made parking a little challenging, but it wasn't a major problem. Did I mention the staff were chatty? They really were. 😀

The rooms are nice and spacious, and the food is great, but I couldn't sleep because of the noise. We stayed on a Thursday, and loud music from the bar downstairs continued until 1.30am. As closing time approached, there was also lots of arguing and shouting that carried on through the night. My wife and I mentioned it to a woman in the morning, and she asked if we were sure it came from the pub. We were 100% sure. Apart from the noise, it's a nice place.

The restaurant, 1906, had a nice atmosphere and fantastic food, and the staff were friendly and helpful. We had a lovely, relaxing stay at The Royal Hotel. The staff welcomed us warmly and our room was great, with a super king-size bed that was very comfortable. After a wet day out, the waterfall shower's hot water warmed Mr up nicely. Highly recommend it, the stay was top quality. 🐝🐝
