The people give this place its warm, welcoming feel, and the dog-friendly policy is a nice plus. It’s easy to explore from here, with a market and lots to see nearby, plus the bus station close at hand. We liked the relaxed, social feel, especially the bar for meeting people. Breakfast was simple and tasty, a good start to the day. The building could do with a little upkeep, though nothing major. It’s more hostel-style than a typical hotel, but in a good way, and I’d happily recommend it if you enjoy a lively atmosphere.

We had a Sunday roast when we arrived, and it was excellent. Breakfast was good quality too, with a decent choice. The bar has a nice range of well-kept ales, alongside the usual keg drinks, as you’d expect from a hotel owned by Wadworth. It’s an older place and there’s no air-conditioning, but that didn’t matter during our January stay. Well worth booking if you’re in the area.

The location is perfect, and there’s free parking. Prices are very reasonable, and both breakfast and the evening meal were good. The staff were friendly, helpful and efficient throughout. It’s a lovely, characterful old hotel, though a little tired in places, and the creaky upper-floor boards give away its age.

Room 14 had recently been renovated and was beautifully done. We stayed during the lantern parade and really enjoyed it. Despite a busy evening, all the staff were friendly and accommodating. We had dinner and breakfast the next morning, both tasty and well presented, and good value. We’d like to come back for a longer stay.

The room was warm and clean, and excellent value. The bar was reasonably priced and breakfast was excellent. Staff were all very helpful, happy to sort anything out. It’s a great spot for the town centre. On-site parking is limited, but there are plenty of nearby pay-and-display car parks.
