The Peppermill

The steak ciabatta was cooked perfectly and the food was delicious. We dropped in for Saturday lunch without booking, and they had room for our group of three. There’s plenty of choice on the affordable lunch menu, including hot meals and ciabattas. The staff were extremely friendly, and we got a table overlooking the kitchen, which I loved.

My wife went to the Peppermill for a birthday dinner last Saturday and told them she’s allergic to alcohol, including when it’s in food. She checked each dish and also asked twice whether her mocktail was alcohol-free. The server said it was. After a generous swig, she could taste alcohol in it. The server apologised and said not to worry, as the alcohol was at the bottom. We spent the rest of the night and the early hours in A&E in Salisbury. For someone with this allergy, alcohol can gradually affect breathing and slow the heart until it stops. It’s serious, and how quickly a reaction takes effect depends on how much alcohol was consumed. I emailed the Peppermill through its contact page to explain how disappointed we were and what could have happened, but they couldn’t even take a couple of minutes to reply. Think how much worse it could have been if my wife hadn’t tasted the alcohol and we hadn’t received treatment as quickly as we did. Shame on you, Peppermill.

I was here for my friend’s wedding and was really impressed. It’s a lovely little hotel, with snug sitting areas between the rooms and a high-quality finish. My room was incredibly comfortable and very well equipped.

We started with pre-dinner drinks in the hotel’s pretty Courtyard, then ate in the restaurant. The decor inside was very favourable, and the surroundings made for a great meal. There were four of us, each ordering a different main, and every one was exceptionally good. I believe there’s a new French chef who’s only been there a couple of months and is already making his mark. The two staff working Thursday night were lovely and couldn’t have been more helpful. Fully recommend.
