The spa was spotless and worth spending time in. Entry to the pool and spa was free. It was fairly busy even around 7-8pm, though I could still swim a few laps without much contact with anyone. The jacuzzi has a 15-minute limit, so there’s a chance to wait and enjoy it alone, and I found the saunas really relaxing, even on my first time using one. They’re not for the faint-hearted, though. I had a very relaxing two-night stay. That king bed was pure luxury, definitely memory foam, and I slept better than I have in ages after walking about 17,000 steps in one day. The refillable water jug was a nice welcome, even if it wouldn’t take ice from the machine, so we used the glasses instead. There were plenty of reasonably priced amenities. The shower was small but easy to use, with good pressure, and left me relaxed. I did spot a long hair hanging by the shower head, which bothered me a bit. I’ll give the cleaner the benefit of the doubt and assume it was just a bad day. Breakfast had a decent variety even if the choice wasn’t huge. I was happy with it, though my partner wasn’t too bothered. The scrambled eggs were fluffy, the beans rich, and there were plenty of things to put together a cheese or fruit plate, or a yogurt bowl. But I also found a hair on the pineapple slices. That was harder to excuse, and I don’t know how it left the kitchen or wasn’t noticed. The hotel felt luxurious and I was comfortable the whole time. There was a good mix of guests, from business people and posh folk to 'the lads' and me, an alternative young adult. The staff were kind and friendly, and I never felt unwelcome. Its spot beside the riverside walk is handy, with lots of bars, restaurants and places to visit nearby. I’d recommend it, especially if they get better at spotting hairs.

The friendly, helpful and professional staff were a real highlight, and the hotel is clean, quiet and close to the city centre. But at this price and standard, I expected much more from the facilities and value. I wouldn’t be in a hurry to return. Breakfast at £29 per person felt extortionate for what was on offer. The pool and its surrounding area were both cold, and the sauna wasn’t working, so the spa wasn’t relaxing. In room 126, the TV wouldn’t stream or mirror a phone, which feels outdated. One of the supposedly clean bath towels had fake eyelashes stuck to it, which was unpleasant and made me question housekeeping. There was no fridge, and the hairdryer didn’t work properly.

We had a lovely one-night stay, with a great view over the river to the cathedral from our superior room. Dinner and breakfast in the smart restaurant were lovely too, and we slept well in a very comfortable bed. Everyone we met was friendly, from reception to housekeeping. Special thanks to Alex at reception for the warm welcome and early check-in, Bailey at the bar for looking after us and keeping the wine topped up, and Graz in the restaurant for her lovely smile and attentive service. We’d definitely recommend the hotel and stay again.

We came back after spending our wedding night here several years ago. The room had a spectacular view, and we were very impressed by the facilities. Staff were especially attentive and polite.

We paid £140 for the room plus £17 for parking, and it didn’t feel worth it. The standard room was below standard, and I reckon some lesser-known hotels would have offered something better. It also hadn’t been cleaned thoroughly. The wellness centre was extremely small and very busy, though I understand that can’t really be helped. The staff were lovely at check-in, in the wellness centre and at breakfast.
