Blackfriars Lofts

Clean place and a great location, but from the first floor you hear every footstep overhead.

The bed was really comfortable, and the kitchen had all the cookware you’d need to make meals. It’s a lovely flat overall. A few things let it down: the sofa had some dirty spots and was extremely uncomfortable. The walls don’t block much sound, so we constantly heard the people upstairs. The shower was very slippery, so be careful. I stubbed my toe pretty badly on the drain.

Just off the Royal Mile, this was a wonderful apartment, roomy, clean and modern. Having a washer and dryer was great. The awkward bit was the loft bed: it sits very low, and getting up to it means a big step that was difficult to navigate if I needed the bathroom during the night.

The room was fantastic for the few nights my spouse and I stayed, and you can’t beat the spot, right by the Royal Mile and within walking distance of the station and the rest of Edinburgh Old Town. The loft stairs could be dicey for anyone with mobility challenges, though. I’d have felt better with a deadbolt or chain on the room door. Nothing happened, but it would have been reassuring. It’s also pricey for anyone on a budget, though a good option if you want to treat yourself while visiting Edinburgh.
