Mono Suites Old Town

The room was clean and better than we expected, and the location is really good. I'd recommend this place for groups! 😊

We were very happy with Monosuites Edinburgh's central location. Most major tourist spots are walkable, but the property is on a busy road with heavy traffic day and night. They thoughtfully gave us earplugs on arrival. The apartment was welcoming, clean, and spacious. We had a two-bedroom place with plenty of room for four, and the kitchen had basic cooking and cleaning utensils, a dual hob, microwave, and fridge. There was no oven, which was inconvenient, and we were disappointed there wasn't a toaster either. The room sits above a restaurant and gets very warm. Even in March we opened the windows and used fans, and the thermostat showed 26°C. We also found the bathroom wasn't as clean as it first seemed. The shower gel pump didn't work, and when we took the bottle off its stand it was full of mold. We had requested 'special assistance' in our booking, but were told the morning we arrived that Monosuites couldn't provide it. We booked through LastMinute.com, so that may have been an issue on their end. They knew we had a baby with us, but put us on the top floor, 64 steps up, which made carrying the pram a real challenge. There are lockers at entry level for £8 per night, £32 for our four-night stay. After one trip upstairs with the pushchair, we knew we couldn't manage it again and used a locker, but booking and accessing it was unnecessarily complicated. There's also a serious safety issue: the living room door was held open with a doorstop, and a large screw was screwed into the floor underneath it. Our baby could easily have stepped on or crawled over it and been badly hurt. This needs immediate attention.

Being able to cook breakfast and keep food and drinks in the fridge was really useful. Check-in was also incredibly smooth, with clear instructions sent promptly by both email and text. The location is fantastic, just steps from the Royal Mile and other key Edinburgh spots. That does mean street noise at night. We moved the fan beside the bedroom window and that worked well, and the staff also kindly provided earplugs. The bedding and towels were very clean, but surfaces could use more attention. There was dust on things like the oven vent, bathroom vent, and shower head, and the kitchen table area was greasy. Even so, we'd definitely stay again when we return to Edinburgh.

Our one-bedroom suite was roomy, nicely laid out, and had plenty of towels and nice amenities for the three of us. The contactless check-in went smoothly after I got a text that morning with building and room access details, though I was concerned to see staff were only available from 0900-1600. The room wasn't very clean: there was mold at the bottom of the shower wall and inside the electric kettle. Hot water ran out after just two showers, neither of them very long. It's noisy too. We could clearly hear doors closing, hallway conversations, and people in the next room. The earplugs provided made it seem like a noisy night was expected. There's no elevator, so taking luggage up the narrow stairs can be a challenge.
