Smith Place Hotel

The reception man was really nice, and there are pleasant coffee shops and bars nearby. It's also not far from the Tramway station. The rooms were very clean, and the bathroom looked brand new. The decor is a bit kitsch, but cute. A nice hotel for three stars.

I had a team meeting that ran late, so I didn't get back to my room until 23:00. The room system meant I could just walk in, which worked really well. Everything was clean and well organised, including the modern bathrooms. Great experience for a very reasonable price. If I'm in Edinburgh again, I'll definitely come back.

Our friends had booked a room for October, but unforeseen circumstances mean they can't travel. Cancelling isn't possible, so they've paid 1000€ for a stay they can't use. Even after explaining what happened, offering proof of hospitalisation, and asking to move the booking to another date so the money wouldn't be wasted, the hotel wouldn't refund them. The only offer was 10% off a future stay. Really disappointing. We'll make sure they don't stay here again.

For the price, it was just what I expected, maybe even a little better. The room was small but cosy, the bathroom was clean, and the bed was comfortable. The woman at reception was lovely and helpful, so it worked well for my solo trip. One small snag: the window wouldn't stay open and kept sliding down. Maybe that was just my room. The weather wasn't too hot, so it was fine.
