The Lane Hotel

We were both really happy with our night in Galway at The Lane, and at about £40 each, thought it was great value. The location is brilliant, right by Eyre square and the train station. Our room was small but cosy, clean and had a lovely bed. It also came with shampoo, a hairdryer, TV and coffee machine. We were greeted by the most beautiful dogs when we came in, which was a lovely start to the trip. The staff were grand and let us leave our bags after checkout. They'd also prepared our room before 12 when we arrived in the morning, even though check-in wasn't until 3. We'd definitely come back.

There isn't staff in the hotel itself, but the people we met through the restaurant downstairs and cleaning staff were so lovely. Everyone was accommodating and helpful whenever we had questions or concerns. I only stayed briefly, but loved it: the rooms were spacious, the price was great, and I highly recommend it.

The Garden Room worked perfectly for my friend and me, especially with our heavy bags full of books. We stayed at The Lane Hotel for four nights last September for the book fair. It was spacious and stylish, and the location made it easy to avoid the crowds around city hotels. Breakfast was delicious, the check-in was smooth, and we got a welcome drink at Canny Man's pub. Free drinks and cookies were a sweet touch too. The nearby bus stop was handy, and the staff were really friendly and attentive. A wonderful stay.

The room was barely cleaned, and the empty shampoo and shower gel bottles weren't replaced the next day. With no reception, there was no one to ask for soap or shampoo. That's below the hotel service I expect. It was 13°C when we arrived because the heating was completely off, and it took a while to warm the room. In a twin room, the single beds sit almost right beside each other, so it feels practically like a double. The hotel is a bit far from the city centre. The bus connection is good, but takes around 25 minutes. Since there's no reception, you have to contact staff at the nearby pub if you have a problem. There are many better options in the city for the same price.
