Thanks to Sinita, who was very helpful in finding us alternative accommodation and sorting the problem out. Still, my birthday was made stressful for a few hours, which I could have done without. We’d booked two nights DBnB as a birthday treat, but arrived to find the place in darkness. We were told the chef was off sick, so there’d be no dinner, and that they don’t serve dinner on Sundays. That wasn’t clear when we booked. They offered just £50 off. The room was supposed to have been refurbished, but smelled damp, had no bedside lights, and we were told there were no other guests that evening. We decided not to stay, then were told we might not get a refund because we were cancelling less than 48 hours in advance. That wasn’t acceptable when we weren’t getting what we’d originally booked. Luckily, no payment had been processed, so there was no refund to arrange.

The afternoon tea was delicious, and everyone had a wonderful time. We especially loved the adorable watermelon baby pram, it was so cute! Everything turned out just as we’d hoped. Thank you so much to everyone at the Royal Hotel Elgin, especially Carole, for helping me organise such a special Baby Shower. Highly recommend!

The only problem was a faulty radiator in the room. The hotel is in a great spot near the station, and the cooked breakfast was excellent.

The breakfast was fresh and delicious, especially the hashbrowns. Hot items are ordered and brought to the table, while the cold food is set out for self-service. That buffet has cereal, milk, toast, yogurt and three kinds of pastries. The rooms are clean and well kept.

The food was fantastic. The fish and chips, cheesecake and soup were all astounding. Alex and Nikki checked carefully which menu items I could have for my Muslim dietary requirements. The room was clean and really comfortable, and there’s a lovely little mosque nearby. The location is central too. Alex and Nikki were probably the most hospitable hotel staff I’ve ever experienced, and the family-run hotel is absolutely lovely. Please stay here if you’re in Elgin, it’s a must. Thank you, Nikki and Alex.
