The room was clean, and parking was good with CCTV. The Park and Ride is very close, though it isn't always punctual or comfortable. Staff were mixed, some friendly, others disinterested and unhelpful. There were quite a few people smoking just outside, so at times we had to walk through their smoke to get in. Still, a very useful place to stay.

I booked and paid for a family room with a double bed, but was given a twin room when we arrived at Travelodge Exeter M5. When I queried it, the receptionist said all rooms were full. There was no real explanation, solution or helpful customer service. If I'd booked a family room, why wasn't one reserved? Customers should get the room type they paid for. We were meant to travel with my step-daughter, and only a last-minute change of plans stopped this from becoming an even bigger problem. The twin room would've been completely unsuitable for us. I'm very disappointed by the lack of accountability and how poorly this was handled. I expect a refund or compensation for not receiving the accommodation I'd booked, and will pursue it directly with Travelodge. I wouldn't recommend staying based on this experience. Update: both twin beds had stained sheets when we pulled back the bedding. There were visible marks, and I took photos. This was beyond disgusting. Travelodge not only failed to provide the family room I'd paid for, but the room we got also missed basic cleanliness standards. It raises serious concerns about housekeeping and quality control at this hotel. Absolutely appalling.

For a cheap room, it's not bad, but don't come expecting a completely clean place to stay. The first impression was that the room seemed clean, the towels were on the bed, and the bathroom looked somewhat clean. The bed was fine. One bedside charging port doesn't work, and there's stuff on one of the towels. We're hoping it's makeup and nothing else. The toilet and sink are clean, but the shower needs a proper clean. I also couldn't tell whether the door was locked, so I had to leave my partner in the room and try to get back in to check. The hallways could use a lick of paint or two.

The staff were very friendly and helpful, and the beds were comfy. The rooms felt a bit tired, though they were very clean. Considering it's next to the M5, it wasn't very noisy, and the location worked well for Exeter chiefs rugby. There's no restaurant on site for breakfast, which is a shame, but the nearby Toby carvery served a good one. Not a bad place to stay.
