We’ve stayed here twice and enjoyed both visits. The location is ideal, close to the beach and town centre, and both the hotel and area are quiet. The rooms were clean, comfortable and good value, although some are probably getting to the point where they’ll need refurbishment. The staff are friendly, and we’d return. Parking is the main difficulty. The car park only holds a handful of cars, and the street outside is always crowded. It’s a period building, so it wasn’t designed to accommodate so many guests with cars. Still, on both visits we found free parking within a few minutes’ walk each night.

The staff were courteous and very helpful, but the hotel itself is dated and needs modernization. It rained all day, so I stayed in to watch rugby. The television signal kept failing and needs sorting out.

The location is convenient for both the seafront and town centre, and it’s good value. Our room was very large, with fantastic sea views, an en suite bath and a shower over it. The huge bed was really comfortable. The furniture looked a little dated, but it was clean and functional. Breakfast was good, with self-serve continental items as well as a cooked Full English.

We had a nice-sized room in a good location, and a lovely welcome from the woman on reception. But management really needs to improve the cleanliness. The rooms feel a bit dated, and the bathroom needed a much better clean. I found a used plaster stuck to the bathroom bin bag, and when I showered on arrival, I could tell the drain wasn’t clearing. Looking inside, I was disgusted to see months of hair and soap scum built up there. Attention to detail is needed. I know it can be hard to get all the rooms cleaned on time in a busy season, but clearing that drain is a five-minute job. If kept on top of, it shouldn’t trouble future guests.

The staff were friendly and attentive, though there were a couple of things they could review, like the very out-of-date complimentary tea and the lack of a hairdryer. I’d give the service 4/5. The seafront location was perfect, away from noise, so 5/5. The rooms felt dated and seemed to need renovation in several places, including the worn carpet. 2/5.
