The room’s cleanliness was poor: the carpet and sofa hadn’t been vacuumed, crisps were scattered around, and dust and dirt had collected along the skirting boards. We stayed on 1 January before attending an event the next day. The beds were comfortable, but in the morning the water was freezing, so we couldn’t wash or shower. It caused a major disruption and we had to make other plans. At checkout nobody acknowledged it or apologised. Guest relations offered only a partial refund and considered that a goodwill gesture. Premier Inn’s 100% satisfaction guarantee seems to apply only if you haven’t slept well. Our serious morning inconvenience apparently doesn’t count. Really dissatisfied.

The rooms were in good condition, there was plenty of free parking, and an M&S is right next door if you need to pick up food. The walk to the old town centre is easy and straight, about 15 minutes. Service brought the score down: there was nobody available at check-in to help with a problem.

M&S and Aldi are right on site, which is handy. The rooms were clean, spacious and tidy, with nice decor, a small fridge and coffee pods. The restaurant is pleasant, with a basic menu; the chicken salad was filling and helped me keep my calories in check. Breakfast was pleasant too, though I missed the yoghurt pots. I really dislike the two troughs of slop, especially when I’m trying to eat healthily away from home. A minor gripe overall, it’s a nice place.

We were less than a 20 minute walk from the main street. The hotel’s in a handy spot, not too far from the centre, with free parking shared with M&S. Aldi is across the road and M&S is next door, useful if you’d rather skip the hotel breakfast.

My bedroom was quiet and clean, and breakfast was plentiful and delicious. The restaurant was clean too, and the staff were helpful and seemed proud of their work. Parking was free, and it was a short walk into the town centre. I hadn’t expected much, but my two night stay was great. After a thoroughly depressing stay at a different Premier Inn, this one has restored my faith in the chain.
