The vegan roast was tasty, though I wished the kitchen had offered something closer in value to the meat dishes, including a proper like-for-like serving of roast potatoes. The grilled courgette stood in for the roast meat. I also tried the butternut squash and tomato soup, which was excellent, and there’s a good set-menu deal. The beef and Yorkshire pudding was described as excellent too. The Angel Inn sits in lovely Petworth, a little off the beaten track. It felt warm and welcoming on a very rainy day, with plenty of space and a good atmosphere. The covered outdoor area was busy even in February. 4/5

We went for a meal with friends and two children, and there was a superb choice for both the kids and adults. My hake was really tasty, and the service was friendly and attentive. It’s a charming, cosy pub in a lovely spot. I’d happily recommend it.

The roast beef was lovely and tender, but it arrived only warm, and none of the food was hot. I also had to go to the bar twice to get things. The staff were charming, which made the letdown more frustrating. It’s a lovely old pub right in the centre of Petworth, so I’d expected better from Sunday lunch yesterday.

We hadn’t booked, so we were lucky to find a table after stopping in for tea and coffee mid-morning. The menu had Tartifette, which brought back happy memories of holidays in the French Alps. It was a little different from what I remembered, but just as tasty and enjoyable. There was a good atmosphere, and the staff were attentive and friendly. I’d certainly recommend the place and look forward to coming back.

The staff were friendly and helpful, and the atmosphere was lovely. It’s a traditional old English pub right in the heart of Petworth, with lovely food and vegetarian options.
