We split the Captain’s apartment with another couple and it worked perfectly for two couples in their mid-thirties visiting to hike Ben Nevis. Each couple had a bathroom, and there was loads to do on the grounds, so we wished we’d booked another day. We got a tour when we checked in, with gorgeous architecture and nature views, plus complimentary wine and snacks. We made use of the pool, sauna and steam rooms, lakeside restaurant, in-room laundry, pool hall and walking paths into town. I even had a peaceful morning tea and biscuits by the lake. We loved it, and the apartment was spectacular.

In the early morning, you can watch mist move across Loch Ness as the first sunlight brings out the colors. The staff are friendly and always glad to help. The beautiful abbey is right beside the loch and has served as a military fort and later a school; now it houses self-catering apartments.

We chose the Scriptorium from the different room options. The bedroom and ceiling were beautiful, and the grounds were gorgeous. Fort Agustus’s food options are only about a five-minute walk away, which was very handy.

We enjoyed our three-night stay and would highly recommend it if you can afford it. The place is a monument in itself, and a walk around the grounds feels like an outing. We had the Chapel house, which, as I understand it, isn’t really standard. It was very spacious, nicely furnished, and had a good kitchen, plus its own private garden and entrance. My only comment is about the swimming pool opening hours.

Our unit was fantastic, though I imagine it depends which one you rent since they’re privately owned and rented out. The kitchen was well stocked, there was a clothes washer, and we had everything we needed. Love this place.
