Archangel

We liked the Archangel’s chic feel and the cosy little rooms off the corridor. Our evening table was upstairs on the mezzanine, where the staff looked after us well. The rump steaks were a bit tough, though we ate them; after we mentioned it, they removed one steak from the bill, which we appreciated. Everything else was delicious. Drinks cost a little more than elsewhere, but we’d recommend giving it a try.

We’ve been to the pub several times over the years, but this was our first overnight stay. The room was spotless and comfortable, with fresh coffee, and the staff were friendly and helpful. We enjoyed a Sunday afternoon and night there and are already planning another stay.

We had a lovely dinner with live music on Valentine’s evening, then a great breakfast and delicious Sunday roast the next day. The Archangel’s quirky decor, angel murals and real fires made it a memorable place to stay. It’s right in the heart of Frome, a friendly town with an ethical, artistic feel. We also caught the children’s pancake races and browsed some wonderful shops run by friendly, inspiring owners. A wonderful weekend break 🧡 Thank you.

The restaurant was amazing: generous portions, beautifully cooked food, and staff who were kind, attentive, welcoming and quick to help. Our room was comfortable enough, with a good shower and a bed we slept well in, though the bathroom looked a little tired. The heating was extremely hot when we arrived, but we turned it down. We booked the Classic double on a January deal for £85 a night, which felt like good value for a weekend away. At £130 or more, I’m not sure we’d have felt the same. The room was smaller and less smartly decorated than the Booking photos suggested, and I couldn’t see how it merited a four-star rating. It had what we needed, but nothing fancy. Our door opened onto the courtyard, with tables only a few metres away, so a busy evening could have kept us awake. We had a late night ourselves, so it didn’t bother us much.
