The George And Pilgrim

The pub feels cozy and festive, and everything about my visit was lovely. My burger was great, and the gluten-free bun actually held together. The cheesecake was extraordinary. Julie and Kyle looked after me so well, while Emma and Rory did a great job in the kitchen. The team makes an effort with every customer whether it’s busy or quiet. The food isn’t cheap, but I think the quality of both the food and service makes it worthwhile. I love coming to the G&P!

We stayed one night as a birthday treat for two couples. The room was fine, but dinner was disappointing. Our 7:30 table wasn’t especially late, yet the pie of the day had run out, and so had the fish and chips. We ended up ordering steak and scampi, both overpriced and small portions. The house wine was £25 a bottle and poor. If it hadn’t been raining, we’d have gone elsewhere. At breakfast the next morning, the waitress said they had no tomatoes or black pudding for our full English. Poor management all round.

The place is quirky, warm and cozy, and the food was very good. We stayed over Christmas and really loved it. The staff were lovely and so helpful. Leon, Kyle, Veranicee, and Scatty made us feel especially welcome. Even with how busy Christmas Day was, the team did a sterling job. Highly recommended 😊🎄

We chose to include breakfast with our booking, and that turned out to be a good decision. Everyone was friendly and helpful. On our last morning, it was lovely to meet Scatty, who has worked there for many years, and that was a nice way to finish our visit. We had a lovely stay in a room in the old part of the George & Pilgrim. I’ll definitely stay here again.
