Villa Rose - SELF CHECK IN

The room was fine and the stay was adequate. It wasn’t especially pretty, but for the price I was happy. The shower was the problem: it got so hot it scalded my stomach, though luckily only a little. I contacted the hotel and heard nothing back. I worry a child could get badly scalded and end up in hospital. The water shouldn’t be able to get that hot.

I was nervous after reading some reviews, and the renovation work was still visible from outside. But one call to the number there put my mind at ease. A helpful guy talked me through the front door and showed me to my room, all very easy. The room was a pleasant surprise, clean and fresh, with a balcony and a lovely view. We stayed two nights. When we came back on the second day, the room had been cleaned, and it was a much better clean than I’ve had at other hotels. We’ll stay again later this year and look forward to seeing how the renovations have progressed. Thanks for a great stay!

Absolutely awful. We had no service at the hotel, and when we called for help, we were ignored. We left our holiday a day early because the place was horrendous. There were food stained towels and blood on the bedding. One of the rooms I’d booked was unusable because its door was broken, and nobody came to fix it or help. It was noisy until the early hours. I wouldn’t let my dog sleep there, let alone my kids. A terrible experience.

I’ve stayed at this hotel a few times and reviewed it after each visit. It’s a budget hotel, with prices that vary depending on what you want, so don’t expect the upper deck of the Titanic. My wife and I have found it practical and functional, and previous stays went well with no complaints. A rattling door, a dodgy floorboard, or sometimes no TV remote didn’t stop the rooms being usable. The chamber maids and management are nice and available if you need them. On my last visit last week, everything else was fine, but the back window locks weren’t working. They were there, but parts were missing, which left the room vulnerable. I had to take my personal belongings with me every time I went out. Security matters to me, and I’d expect the owners to be thorough about it. Please fix the window locks.
