The Old Government House Hotel & Spa

The food service across the different restaurants was fantastic, though it’s expensive, so it may not be for everyone. Staff were great at providing the right amount of service when needed, and the location is wonderful. The rooms are a little small and traditionally decorated, which fits the hotel’s overall style. We highly recommend it and plan to return.

The staff were brilliant, and the room was clean, spacious, and had everything we needed. The food was amazing, apart from the hung curd. I had to try it, but I’d choose something else next time. On one day, the room wasn’t cleaned and the coffee and biscuits weren’t replaced, but reception sorted it out when we mentioned it. Breakfast got very busy one day, so we were sent to an overflow area. The tables there are too low and small to fit your legs under, which made eating difficult. The lounge is a nice place to read a paper after breakfast, and some people used it for cream teas.

We spent four days here in Queen Room 109. The balcony looking over the port was lovely, and the room was tastefully decorated and spotless. The hotel sits just off the High Street in an elevated spot, so it’s quiet, though the hills may not suit everyone. Service was friendly and first class, and the food and drink were exceptional. A superb hotel with five-star service.

The room was particularly small, even though we’d been upgraded. Still, we’d visit again. We recently stayed four nights and thought the hotel was lovely, with exceptionally helpful and informative staff. The dining room and reception teams deserve a special mention. Thank you.
