Worplesdon Place - a Bespoke Hotel

The space is a big part of why I love coming here: there’s a large garden and lake, black swans, plenty of parking, and enough room between tables to relax without feeling crowded. The menu suits different preferences, and it’s dog friendly too. This was about our seventh visit, celebrating my birthday with Sunday lunch with family and an overnight stay for my husband and me. Kate was warm and attentive, and the complimentary glass she gave me for my birthday was a lovely, thoughtful gesture.

We stayed near family over Christmas and had no complaints. The room was clean and imaginative, the staff smart and professional, and there was even an art gallery. Food options ranged from bar food and full meals to brunch, with a varied menu, reliably perfect poached eggs, and clever alcohol-free cocktails. It’s a lovely building by a lake, considerate of children, and dogs are accommodated with biscuits and water.

The lake-side setting and lovely rooms made a special backdrop for our old friend’s winter pub wedding at the Worplesdon. The space worked well, and having the celebration in a proper English pub with delicious food and that welcoming pub atmosphere felt truly special. The team’s attention to detail, grasp of hospitality, and willingness to go the extra mile blew us away. Thank you so much for such a magical day.

The bed was comfortable, the decor pleasant, and both dinner and breakfast were tasty. The morning coffee was delicious too. But room 23 in the annex was uncomfortably warm even after I turned the radiator valve off. The room notice says to tell staff if the heating has a problem, so they seem aware of the issue. I’d been travelling all day and needed to rest, so I didn’t ask anyone to switch it off. If you’re given room 23, I’d suggest requesting another room. The bathroom window could also use a blind. The shower took a minute to warm up, then became scalding hot when I turned it up. Turning it back toward cold didn’t cool the water, and I had to stop showering because I felt I was getting burnt. There are clearly plumbing issues. On Friday morning last week, one staff member was handling breakfast alone while a group was in house. The coffee machine failed, and she seemed stressed. When I asked for coffee, she replied snappily. They could bring in another person to help with breakfast service when there’s a group.
