The dinner deal made the stay reasonably priced, and the food was good for a large conference hotel. Breakfast was buffet style, though the coffee came from a machine. The bar, brasserie and pool were quiet while we were there, even though the hotel is busy with conferences. Our room was spacious and clean, with a huge, very comfortable bed and a large bathroom with a roll-top bath. The toiletries didn’t feel high-end. The old building is beautiful, and the bar is lovely. All the staff were lovely too. We had a very nice stay.

We had a great spa experience, and the water beds were a nice touch after our massage. There was a good range of spa treatments and products for sale. Our room was spacious, warm and clean, and the beds were comfortable, so we slept well. The beautiful building was a pleasure to explore, and a tour helped us get a feel for it. Victoria at reception gave us one of the warmest welcomes I’ve had. She explained breakfast and spa times, dining options, and the hotel’s history, with leaflets to read as well. All the staff at Crewe hall were warm and welcoming. We enjoyed drinks in the bar and can’t wait to visit again. It’s a friendly, relaxing place with beautifully designed rooms to explore, and I’d highly recommend it. Thanks to everyone for a lovely stay. You deserve five extra stars x

The food in the bistro was excellent, and the room was spacious, comfortable and finished to a high standard. The hotel itself is genuinely beautiful, and most staff were friendly and welcoming. We found the heating a little hard to operate, but managed. Our family evening became deeply upsetting because of a serious security incident. There didn’t seem to be a visible security presence. A guest, reportedly upset after being refused a meal in the bistro, turned on taps in the bathroom areas and appeared to be trying to cause flooding. I turned the taps off myself and reported it to reception. Later, the same man went into the bar and directed sustained, aggressive and very personal verbal abuse at customers. My 93-year-old father, my wife, my daughter-in-law and I were targeted, along with other guests. It wasn’t harmless banter. The atmosphere was frightening, and two young female bar staff looked visibly distressed and genuinely petrified. We left the bar to avoid further confrontation. In our view, the aggression warranted police involvement. We told the duty manager, who came to the bar, and then removed ourselves from the situation. We don’t know what action was taken. We’d come for a quiet family evening, but left shaken and extremely upset. No guest, especially someone of my father’s age, should face that kind of intimidation in a place that’s meant to be safe. The hotel is somewhat isolated, which makes the lack of proper security more concerning. Things like this could escalate quickly, leaving guests vulnerable without trained security staff present. We raised the incident again at reception the next morning and were told it was “very unusual” and would be looked into. I sincerely hope senior management reviews it carefully and takes appropriate action. A visible security presence could have dealt with it quickly and prevented a distressing night for several guests. The hotel is lovely apart from this serious issue, but until its security measures are clearly addressed, I’d hesitate to return. We’re still deciding whether to report it formally to the appropriate authorities. This wasn’t minor, and it has genuinely shaken our confidence in what should have been a peaceful family stay.

Dinner was amazing, and although there was a long wait between the end of the meal being cleared and dessert being offered, the desserts were worth it. We were a group of about 14, so that may have contributed to the delay. The hotel is very nice, and the main building and lobby look lovely, though I stayed in the west wing and can’t comment on rooms in the main section. My room there was spacious and clean, with plenty of desk space for work. The bathroom was well maintained, but the shower leaked under the door, which I think just needs a new bottom runner to seal it. There weren’t any plugs by the bed, though there were enough elsewhere in the room, so it wasn’t a big issue. The health club, which seemed to come as standard with the stay, was very nice. The gym was either meticulously maintained or had recently been updated. The pool and spa area looked good, but the jacuzzi was a bit small and shallow to relax in. Breakfast was nice too, with the usual cooked items, pastries, yoghurt and cereals. Everything was cooked well and kept topped up. I’d definitely come back and eat here again, for work or pleasure.

The spa treatment itself was really good, and my massage was amazing, probably one of the best I’ve ever had. The spa facilities were a bit disappointing, though. The pool area was very small and all the loungers were taken, so I’d go elsewhere if booking a spa day. Sheridans Bar was nice, and the cocktails we tried from the menu didn’t disappoint. The restaurant food was exquisite and service was excellent. Breakfast was just as good, with the usual buffet items, pastries and a selection of breads. The building is beautiful. It was a really good trip overall.
