Malvern House

I had a few issues: the carpet and en suite floor were heavily stained, the kettle couldn’t reach the plug socket, and the WiFi was very temperamental. Still, I’ll be back in the summer. I’d travelled down to Wycombe from North Wales and was greeted by a lovely lady who took payment and showed me to my room. It was spacious, the bed was comfortable, the en suite was clean, and there was ample parking.

The man who handled our bookings was very pleasant and couldn’t have been more helpful. The bed, pillows and bedding were clean and fresh, and the price was very reasonable. The rooms were tired and needed a proper clean and paint, though. The bathroom window was small and wouldn’t open, the curtain rail was held together with tape, and things generally looked tatty. Still, as long as the bed is clean, I guess I’m happy.

The bed was clean and the room spacious, but I was thoroughly disappointed. On arrival, we couldn’t get anyone to open the door until the owner eventually appeared, took payment and showed us in. There was a kettle, two coffee sachets and one teabag, but no cups or milk. The carpet needed vacuuming. Before going out for the evening, we asked for the refreshments to be topped up, and he said he would. When we returned around midnight, nothing had been added, so we couldn’t even make a drink, and there was nobody around to help. We only saw the one man who checked us in. The busy road outside was noisy, and there was no breakfast, though we were told we could find a local cafe. We won’t stay again or recommend the place.

We stayed three nights in April 2023, and I wouldn’t trust the four star description. On arrival we had to phone the owner to get a key. The room was never cleaned or tidied, and the waste bin wasn’t emptied. Tea and coffee sachets ran out without being replaced, there was only a quarter roll of toilet paper, and for two people we got one bath towel and one hand towel. The bathroom had a shower and half a bottle of Radox muscle soak bath foam left to use as shower gel. The website doesn’t match what we found; I’ve stayed in better one star hotels. There was no breakfast, and the supposedly flat screen TV was a 14 inch screen, too small to watch comfortably. Maybe we could have asked for things to be replenished, but that should be standard.
