We needed somewhere for a quick night in the city centre, and booking here had made me nervous because of the poor ratings and negative reviews. In the end, my stay was nothing like I’d feared. The owner arranged our very late check-in, talked us through everything on the phone, and we found the room without trouble. We also managed to find parking nearby without much difficulty. The room was clean, warm, cozy, and neatly arranged, with the promised amenities. I’d read claims about bed bugs and was worried, but we had no such problem. Heating and hot water both worked perfectly. For the price, comfort, and location, it was good value, and I’d stay again for a convenient stopover.

The reception staff were lovely and friendly, and the large breakfast platter had lots to choose from, which I really appreciated. That’s why I’m giving two stars rather than one. I don’t blame the staff for the condition of the place, which is up to the owners to improve. I woke up to a bedbug beside me on the pillow. It was gross, and as a broke student travelling, I couldn’t leave because it was so late and I’d gone for what seemed like a good deal. Afterward, I had to spend a lot of my holiday at the laundromat and money on pesticide sprays for my things. The room was dirty too. There were crumbs and dirt on the bedside table, flakes all over the carpet, markings on the walls including what looked like blood, and no lamp, just one overhead light. There wasn’t a curtain, so people on the fire escape or in nearby businesses could see inside. The wardrobe handle was a piece of rope, and despite my booking saying towels were included, I wasn’t given one. The shared bathroom was worst of all. It smelled strongly of urine, the shower door wouldn’t shut, and the floor was flooded when I went in. With no toilet paper holder, the paper was on the wet floor. There was rubbish in the sink and no ventilation for the smell. I tried spraying perfume, but it didn’t help.

The room was okay, but the cabinets were very dusty. The light didn’t work, so I had to ask for a lamp. The employee I spoke with was friendly, though it was hard to find my room because the rooms were jumbled up. The TV remote was dirty and didn’t work, and the noise all night made for terrible sleep. When I went to get the internet password, a woman who seemed mentally ill stared at me for several minutes and harassed me. On the way to my room, several other people told me a guest who was off drugs had attacked them and they’d called the police, though I don’t know if that was true.

We were out of there after ten minutes. The shared bathroom smelled of poo, with skid marks in the toilet, hairs all over the shower, and shampoo bottles tossed on the floor. Our room hadn’t been hoovered and the sheets were dirty. I wouldn’t stay here even if I were paid.

We were disappointed by how we were treated, especially as locals to the Highlands. It left us feeling embarrassed to be associated with the city. At the end, the receptionist came to our room door and rudely said checkout was at 10am, though it was 10:30am, as I’ll show in the images below. When we left, she gave us an uncomfortable look, didn’t say where to leave the keys, and didn’t ask how the stay had been. There were problems from the start, since the hotel didn’t have our reservation. Later, the shower stopped running halfway through while I was using it. I called reception and was rudely asked to repeat myself about three times before getting an answer. The woman said she’d contact their “mechanics” and call back to arrange a fix. My partner and I were there for two days, and I’m still waiting for that call after the trip. Wouldn’t give it even one star if the review form allowed it. DO NOT BOOK THIS HOTEL!!!!
